A while ago I posted about how Heather and I wanted to start growing our own vegetables, well Harbor Freight ended up having a sale on their OneStopGardens 6x8 Greenhouse making it only $299 and at that price there was just no way to justify doing the Costco unit so we jumped at it.
So we went down to Harbor Freight with one of the percent off coupons they mail me (we get one a month as part of their opt in spam) and they told us that it was not "their" coupon well considering I get these in the mail with "their" promotional specials I find that to be bunk. Despite this insult and stupidity (I really should contact the BBB about their behavior) we got the greenhouse anyways at $299 it was still a much better deal than the COSTCO unit.
That same day we took the measurements from the box the greenhouse came in and headed down to Home Depot to get some 8x10x2 lumber to use as the foundation; we had the lumber cut there, used some Simpson braces and sealed wood screws and asembled the foundation and let the rest set for a few days.
Works been hectic and Heather's uncle Bill has been staying with us (best house guest ever BTW) and he offered to put the kit together for us , well he put it together and it turned out nice but we found out a couple things:
-
The dimensions on the outside of the box were different than the dimensions on the instructions.
-
The dimensions on the instructions were different than the dimensions of the parts.
-
The instructions were horrible, and assembly was more of a puzzle than a step-by-step guide.
As a function of #1 and #2 the foundation had to be re-done also, today Bill also did that for us (AWESOME) and now the whole thing is together, check it out:

Now we just need to get some shelves and start planting, should be fun; in the end the project cost about $400 before shelving and plant materials; much better than the 1k we would have ended up at if we did the COSTCO unit, although thats probably not a fair comparison.
In any event were excited to get started, maybe next weekend!
